The budget Android segment is becoming a bit too cluttered with all Indian manufacturers trying to plug all possible price points between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000. However, in this space it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a differentiator in the Android phones.
Recently, two products caught our attention in this price range — the Lava Iris Pro 30 and Micromax’s Canvas Turbo Mini A200.
The Lava Iris Pro 30 is the first of the company’s new premium range of smartphones and is priced at Rs 15,499. The Canvas Turbo Mini A200, on the other hand, is a stripped down version of Canvas Turbo priced at Rs 14,490.
Here is a face off:
In terms of design, the Lava Iris Pro 30 is undoubtedly better looking than the Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini A200. The Lava will remind you of the iPhone 4 and has a smooth, rubberised back panel and a metallic chrome rim frames the phone which has a rectangular monoblock design. Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini, like most other Android devices, has rounded corners and curved edges with a visible camera bump. This is a plain jane in comparison to the Iris Pro 30.
The two phones have loads of similarities. For starters, both flaunt 4.7-inch 720p HD displays. The Iris Pro gets an added advantage of having IPS display constructed using Gorilla Glass technology coupled with one-glass solution technique. Both smartphones run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, have 4 GB internal storage and 32 GB micro SD card slots. Both smartphones offer Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi (802.11 b/g/n) for wireless connectivity. Better location services are promised with GPS chip. Lava Iris Pro 30 weighs about 114 grams while the Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini is a shade lighter at 111 grams. Very close in terms of weight, the difference can be negligible.
