In a bid to attract more small and medium size businesses (SMBs) on its Windows Azure cloud, Microsoft Corporation today launched a Trade-in Scheme in India. It's a first time Microsoft Corporation has introduced such a plan in India for a limited 3 months period between March 20 to June 30 this year.
Through this scheme as per Microsoft Corporation any SMB with IT hardware of less 250 personal computers (PCs) can sell-off its existing old IT for cash or can avail a monthly credit on Windows Azure subscription but on upfront initial commitment.
According to Karan Bajwa, Microsoft Corporation India's Managing Director, SMBs don't have large IT investments like big enterprises and organizations but for them even this small investments in IT remains big and substantial.
“For them (SMBs) cloud is a highly suitable and affordable way to get access to technology that is used today by large enterprises and organizations. And Microsoft Corporation's Trade-in Scheme offers a good opportunity for them to get value for their old IT investements and adopt Windows Azure cloud,” Bajwa told reporters on the second day of Windows Azure conference in Bangalore.
According to Meetul Patel, Microsoft Corporation India's General Manager Small and Medium Businesses, these SMBs are very critical and important for the economy. “With the new trade-in scheme, SMBs will now have the opportunity to jump start their transition to the cloud and reap significant benefits,” said Patel.
Today, similar Trade-in Schemes are offered by vendors and retailers like Apple, Target, HP, Amazon and others.
Currently, Microsoft Corporation has tied up with a Mumbai based recycling and asset recovery (buyback) firm Justdispose for its Trade-in Scheme, where the firm is in-charge of evaluating the old IT like PCs and servers of SMBs and accordingly offer a cash value.
