Passengers onboard an Air India (AI) flight from Jeddah to Mumbai via Hyderabad had a mid-air scare Friday after the cockpit panel indicated that one of the doors of the Boeing 747 aircraft was not shut properly.
The ‘snag’ was detected by the pilot after flight AI 964, with 380 passengers, took off from Jeddah airport at 2.12 am. The pilot requested for an emergency landing at the airport.
“The aircraft was checked by engineers and the indication on the panel was declared a false alarm,” said an AI official.
An AI spokesperson said while the flight was scheduled to fly to Mumbai via Hyderabad, after the check, it was flown directly to Mumbai. “Passengers to Hyderabad were accommodated on another aircraft after the flight arrived in Mumbai at 4.15 pm.”
