Two officers of Dindoshi police station were suspended Monday after a departmental inquiry into delay in filing an FIR when a 16-year-old gangrape victim approached them to file a complaint on November 2. JCP (law and order) Sadanand Date said the Mumbai police commissioner had suspended sub-inspector D Dashime and inspector Bharat Gaikwad for negligence.
Dindoshi police said on November 1, two of the six suspects in the case called the victim to MHADA bridge to celebrate Diwali and four of them took turns to rape her. Dindoshi police registered an FIR only on November 3, based on which three suspects — Wasim Hafeez Sayyed (23), Surya Selvan Pillai (19) and Kalwa Badolal Vishwakarma (19) — were arrested on November 5. The other three suspects, all minors, were arrested from Sakinaka nearly 10 days after the crime.
“DCP Pravin Patil had ordered a departmental inquiry against the two officers for their alleged indifference towards the survivor. She had alleged that when she had approached them immediately after the incident, they mocked her and asked her if she was a drug addict or an alcoholic,” said a senior officer.
