The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has granted environmental clearance to a Chennai-based agrochemical company, Tagros Chemicals Ltd, to set up a Rs 150 crore pesticide manufacturing unit at Dahej in Bharuch district of South Gujarat.
The unit that will produce technical grade pesticides will be set up in the Dahej-GIDC industrial estate in a total plot area of 71,300 square meters.
The upcoming plant, located just 5.3 kilometers from the Narmada river, will require 1383 cubic meters of fresh water daily which will be met by GIDC water supply system. As per the specific conditions laid down by the MoEF while granting clearance to the unit on March 6, the company has been barred from using ground water. Moreover, the unit has also been asked "not to exceed" the allocated daily quota of water being supplied by the GIDC.
MoEF has also asked the company to develop a green belt within the plant on over 33 percent of the total project area.
This is the second pesticide unit in Dahej to get an environmental clearance in 2014. Earlier in January, Specturm Ethers Ltd received permission to set up Rs 80 crore pesticide and intermediate manufacturing unit in Dahej industrial area.
