A day after a 14-year-old girl hanged herself at her Kandivali residence, the police arrested a 15-year-old boy Wednesday for abetting the suicide after her father alleged she had been harassed and stalked by the boy.
The probe into the suicide has now moved to the Facebook profile of the boy, with investigators saying they were probing whether the deceased had deleted her own profile or had one under a different name. The deceaseds father has alleged the boy stalked her and posted obscene messages through his Facebook profile. The police are closely scrutinising the Facebook profile of the boy to verify these claims.
According to the police, the girl was in her house with her mother Tuesday. At 4.30 pm, the girl went to her room to study. At 5 pm, when the mother knocked on her door to tell her daughter to go to her tuition classes, she found it locked. She alerted her husband, who rushed home from work, broke open the door and found his only daughter hanging from the ceiling fan.
The police had registered a case of accidental death on Tuesday. In his complaint, however, the girls father told the police that a boy had been harassing his daughter. The boy studied in my daughters class and had been following her. He also met her in spite of many warnings. I had told him to stay away from her, said the father. Close relatives of the girl, however, said her father had also told her to stay away from the boy, but the two teenagers were allegedly in a relationship and the girl was adamant that she would not stop meeting him.
I had approached the Kandivali police station 15 days ago and asked the police to help me and explain to my daughter but they did nothing. Had they counselled my daughter, she would have been alive, the father said.
The boys father has told us that the two teenagers were in the same school. The boy was repeating class 9, while the girl was in class 10. The girl had written many love letters to the boy and kept a diary where she had expressed her love for the boy, said an officer from the Kandivali police station. The police are now trying to verify the girls handwriting on the love letters and the diary.
