Bharatiya Janata Party’s Narendra Modi and Congress’ Rahul Gandhi may be going at it hammer and tongs to grab the attention and the votes during the Lok Sabha elections, but Google Search trends show what is happening on the sidelines where the regional parties are grabbing eyeballs.
In fact, post-polls, the regional parties will most probably decide the fate of the top two protagonists – it is almost a given that both will need to build an alliance to form a govt at the Centre.
As such, as we move closer towards the 2014 Elections for the 16th Lok Sabha, we thought it is time to look at how some of the regional political parties are stacking up in terms of visibility online and driving search trends.
Here are the highlights (and surprises):
1. The Bahujan Samaj Party led by former Chief Minister Mayawati reveals itself to be the most searched regional party on the internet.
2. Surprisingly, the maximum number of searches on the BSP originate from Chhattisgarh followed by Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh ranks as number 3.
3. Overall, its the BSP, the DMK, and the Shiv Sena followed by the AIADMK and finally the Samajwadi Party comprise the top 5 most searched regional parties. Other most searched parties include ? The Trinamool National Congress, the Communist Party of India, the Akali Dal followed by the Janta Dal and finally Jammu and Kashmir?s National Conference.
