The National Sports of Club of India, getting ready to host the Indian Badminton League (IBL), looks not quite ready. Even as the concrete surface received its temporary flooring for the sport, there is sawdust in the main arena and electric wires hanging loose.
The stadium will host a big ticket event at 8 pm Monday, starring World no. 1 men’s singles player Lee Chong Wei.
“We’ll be ready on time,” said Sanket Shetty, the venue manager.
While the four teams — Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi trundled into the city early Sunday, and World no. 1 Lee Chong Wei flew in from Malaysia, the stars gave the training courts a skip.
IBL’s schedule has been criticised by a few as players are taking flights at unearthly hours. How it’s received over the next two days will help gauge the response for the final to be held here on August 31.
Organisers say tickets have been sold out but the buzz is missing from the venue itself.
