Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is working on a Jaguar model that would compete against the BMW 3-series and Audi A4. The car is expected to be from its erstwhile ?X-Type? segment but done differently. This would be from Jag?s sub-35,000 pounds or around R30 lakh project.
?We are working on not just smaller engines but smaller size car. A smaller than XF car would be the biggest trigger for us as we would like to have a model competing against BMW 3-series and Audi A4,? said Adrian Hallmark, global brand director, Jaguar Cars in an earlier conversation to FE. Currently, the cheapest Jaguar in the market is the XF with its range starting at 29,940 pounds in the UK.
Hallmark adds, ?If we want to grow our business, then we need to take this step change. Like the thing in England ? you cannot make an omelet till you break the egg.? Moreover, the company is in the process of streamlining its sourcing plans to make for its sub-30,000 pound project, said a person close to the development.
