An anti-corruption panel in the Maldives has said that there was no corruption involved in the leasing of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport to GMR Infrastructure in 2010, according to local media reports from the archipelago. The Maldives government had in December 2012 taken over the airport after terminating the concession agreement with GMR on the grounds that it was void.
An investigation report by the Anti-Corruption Commission in the Maldives has stated that no corruption was involved in the leasing of the airport to GMR by the previous administration, according to the Sun Media Group, a local media company. ?We learn from media reports in the Republic of Maldives that the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives (ACC) has submitted its report on the leasing of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. We are in the process of studying the (ACC) report,? said a statement from GMR.
The arbitration proceedings between GMR and the Maldivian government are currently underway with both parties naming their arbitrators and the process is expected to be closed by April 2014.
