SummaryThe Ghaziabad police also said preliminary investigation did not reveal any “serious injuries” on the woman.

Three days after a 22-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by four men in Ghaziabad and later dumped in Noida, her statement under Section 161 of the CrPC was recorded on Thursday. Police said they have officially received statements of Delhi Police personnel, who have said the prime accused in the case, Akhil Tomar, was at the Kalyanpuri police station during the time frame that the woman had claimed that she was raped.

Ghaziabad SSP Dharmendra Singh said, “The victim’s statement was recorded under Section 161 today. Delhi Police personnel also officially gave us statements where they said that Tomar was at the Kalyanpuri Police station during the same time period. The CCTV footage of Tomar at a petrol pump an hour later, again in the time frame when the crime is alleged to have taken place, is being looked at.”

The Ghaziabad police also said preliminary investigation did not reveal any “serious injuries” on the woman.

“We have questioned the doctors at the hospital where the woman was taken after she was reportedly discovered on the side of the road. They have told us that they were not informed of any foreign object being forcibly inserted in her body, as has been suggested. While there are two minor 1.5 cm contusions on her thigh, there are no other external injuries. There is no evidence of any cigarette burns or internal injuries,” Singh said.

Police, however, have not ruled out rape and said they were investigating the case thoroughly. “Let us be clear that we have not ruled out rape so far and all due processes are being followed. We are only conveying the facts as they are being discovered. We are trying to reconcile the discrepancies with the woman’s statement, purely on the basis of evidence. Further investigation is under way,” Singh said.

Friends of the victim, however, alleged that police were actively helping to cover up the crime and the woman herself was facing pressure to withdraw the case. “There have been visits to her house and she was asked to take back the case. She is under pressure to stick to the police version of events,” a friend of the woman said.
