Nokia X+, XL to hit Indian stores this month

Nokia XL could be among the cheapest phablets available from a branded player.

Nokia XL, the largest of the Nokia X series phones based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), will hit stores in India later this month. The Nokia X+, which is the same size as the Nokia X, but with better specs will also become available this month. These will be the first launches from Nokia after the company finished its deal with Microsoft last week.

The Nokia XL is the third in the Nokia X family and the second to be launched in India after the first Nokia X a couple of months back. The Nokia XL could have more takers at will offer a larger 5-inch screen, which is becoming the size of preference in the Indian smartphone market.

The Nokia X is already selling at a discounted price of Rs 7,100. We expect the Nokia XL to be priced well under Rs 15,000 which could make it a good price in the phablet segment. The final price will be announced closer to the date of availability. The Nokia X+ offers more RAM for people who need the smaller screen size of the Nokia X. So it will be priced between the X and the XL.

Pranav Shroff, Head of Product Marketing, Nokia India said he does not expect the Nokia X family to eat into the sales of the entry level Lumia devices. ?This is positioned between the Nokia Asha series and Nokia Lumia series and we hope to see lot of our entry level users skipping the Asha to adopt the Nokia X family,? he said, adding that there would however be some overlap between the upper end of the Nokia X segment and the lower end of the Lumia segment.
