Presentation of corridor from Dhaula Kuan to Chhawala submitted to Transport Minister for review and approval.
A presentation on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor from Dhaula Kuan to Chhawala was submitted before Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami on Thursday for review.
The preliminary project report for this corridor will now be sent to transport department for further scrutiny after which a final clearance will be given by the government for preparing a detailed project report.
“There are six BRT corridors under the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) which need to be cleared by us. A presentation of one of these corridors — from Dhaula Kuan to Chhawala — was made on Thursday. This will now be sent to the transport department, and planning and financial departments thereafter, before a final presentation is made before the Chief Minister,’’ said Goswami.
The work on this corridor will be taken up in two phases.
The first phase, from Dhaula Kuan to Dwarka Sector-21, will be 19.3 km long. The second phase will be from Link Road to Chhawala, officials said.
“The existing width of road available along the corridor is considerably less and ranges between 16m and 60m. Currently, the main public transport services in the corridor are the bus service, gramin sewa and shared autos. Metro lines, flyovers, railway bridges, commercial areas and villages like Janakpuri and Dabri Mor come along this corridor, ‘’ a transport official said.
The proposal for Phase-I involves providing segregated bus lanes throughout the corridor except for small stretches such as Pankha Flyover, rail overbridge, Janakpuri Village until Vidhya Marg Junction and East Dabri Mor.
There will be a segregated lane for 87 per cent of the 19.3-km stretch in phase-1. Thirteen per cent of the stretch will be kept for mixed traffic.
At present, budgetary constraints mean that work on the proposed 14 BRT corridors is unlikely to start this financial year, an official said.
While the detailed project report on the Karawal Nagar-Shastri Nagar-More Gate corridor — also under DIMTS — has been prepared, the work has not started yet.
