After low-cost canteens, vegetable stores and mineral water, it is now the turn of medical stores to bear the Amma brand. Jayalalithaa, who is addressed by her party workers as Amma, has extended her government’s low-cost initiative to pharma stores.
“As yet another initiative, this government will open 100 Amma Marundagam (Amma medical) shops to ensure the sale of medicines at reasonable prices to the public,” finance minister
O Pannerselvam said in his budget speech.
The low-cost Amma medical stores will come up under co-operatives, which already operate around 210 medical shops across the state. The finance minister said a sum of R20 crore will be used from the price-stabilisation fund for this purpose.
