In a meeting with oil ministry officials on Monday, OMCs insisted on increasing the price of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders before raising the cap on them. Sources indicated that the ministry is preparing a draft note for Cabinet approval to review the cap on the number of cylinders and, subsequently, put forward the OMCs?demand. In September, the government had restricted the supply of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders to six per household in a year, a move that ran into stiff opposition. Any requirement above this must be purchased at market rate, which is more than double the subsidised price of R410.42 per cylinder in Delhi.
?The decision to limit the subsidised LPG cylinders to 6 a year has caused hardships,? petroleum minister M Veerappa Moily said in Bangalore.
Earlier, the government withdrew the R26.5-per cylinder increase on non-subsdised LPG after OMCs announced the hike and uploaded the revised prices on their sites.
