A DAY after the Gujarat education minister announced plans to include a chapter on Narendra Modi in the curriculum for primary classes, he rolled back the decision on Friday, after the Prime Minister talked to him on the phone and expressed disagreement with the idea.
Modi called up Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and expressed his objection to making him a part of the school curriculum, before going public on Twitter.
After Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan too on Friday dropped their plans of incorporating a chapter on Modi?s life in the school curriculum.
Chudasama told The Indian Express, ?I received a call from Modiji at 7 this morning. He has expressed his disapproval on this move, and told us to not go ahead with this decision. As he is not in its favour, we have decided to drop the idea.?
The Indian Express had carried the story Friday on the Gujarat government?s plans on the Modi chapter.
In a series of tweets, Modi disapproved of the move. ?Am reading in the news that some states want to include Narendra Modi?s life struggles as a part of their school curriculum,? he said in one tweet. Another said, ?I firmly believe that the life story of living individuals should not be included as a part of the school curriculum. India has a rich history of several stalwarts who made India what it is today. Young minds should read about these greats and emulate them?.
The Gujarat education department had planned to introduce the chapter on Modi?s life for Classes V, VI and VII starting from academic session in June 2015. It had intended to set up a team of experts for the selection and finalisation of the content to be incorporated.
In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for School Education Deepak Joshi told reporters that ?the state government will not include Prime Minister Narendra Modi?s life sketch in school textbooks as tweeted by him.?
Rajasthan Education Minister Kali Charan Saraf said ?since Modi has himself expressed that life story of living individuals should not be included as a part of the school curriculum, we have also dropped the idea to include his life struggle in school textbooks?.
Saraf had earlier this month, before the election results were declared, said he would consider incorporating Modi?s biography in school textbooks if he became the Prime Minister.
