Following the January 13 Gujarat HC order suspending commercial activities in Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), Oriental Carbon & Chemical plans to approach the apex court seeking redressal. Another company working in the SEZ, Thermax India, has sought the HC permission to remove material from the area.
The Gujarat High Court on January 13 had ordered suspension of commercial and development activities at the 12 manufacturing units at the R56,000-crore Adani Group?s Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) at Mundra for 30 days till necessary environmental clearances are obtained.
In a statement filed in BSE, Oriental Carbon & Chemical said it had suspended operations at its Mundra SEZ unit. The company, however, declined to comment on the issue.
Thermax India approached the Gujarat HC on Thursday seeking permission to remove material from the area. Thermax India has a port assembly facility at Mundra, where assembly of large packaged boilers is carried out.
On Monday, a division Bench of the high court had passed an order on a PIL filed by the villagers of Navinal, located inside the Mundra SEZ, alleging serious violations of the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) notification, 2006, by the company and the units there.
Centre unveils new land policy for 12 major ports
New Delhi, Jan 16: The government on Thursday unveiled new policy guidelines for major ports, aimed at helping them leverage their land resources for commercial advantage.
Twelve major ports in India have between them 2.64 lakh acre, which is a major resource. “So far, the land utilisation has not been optimum and often yielded lesser returns. The thrust of the new policy has been on linking the value of land with prevailing market rates,” said an official statement. PTI
