The passport app launched by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ease the process of passport application has topped apps charts in the free category, India section. Thus, becoming the most popular app of India sooner than anticipated.
The app is available for android or iOS platform based smartphones. So, if you have an iPhone, you can now avoid long queues at the passport application counters.
In its first version only passport application status can be checked but, in the next few months, anyone can apply for passport through this app which is available for free on apple store.
It is for the first time that a country's foreign ministry has been able to integrate and consolidate its entire digital presence on a palmtop, thanks to passport' app.
The passport app will provide details of all citizen-centric services of the MEA like passport, visa for those travelling to India and Haj related information.
The MEA envisages the application to be a one-stop shop for citizens. Getting updates from all the 124 Indian missions in the world, information for consular access in case you are abroad, booking for the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, everything at the disposal of ones fingertips. The Indian MEA has also become the first government department to have a mobile app for smartphone users.
According to MEA, the passport mobile application project was completed in a record time of just a little under six months. The app also provides a platform for the users to pose a query to the External Affairs Minister however, only two of the most voted queries will be answered every month.
In case an Indian citizen is travelling abroad and seeks emergency consular assistance, the passport app will help him to find the nearest India Mission/Post and establish contact with officials there.
Also, in case you are planning to travel abroad for work or study and you need to legalise your documents, the app simplifies the steps involved and helps identify the authorised agencies for attestation of your documents.
