Pay Rs 100 to attend Narendra Modi’s Kolkata rally

The party leaders say that by introducing online registration, they are targeting the youth.

To attend BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi?s rally on February 5 at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, a person will have to shell out Rs 100.

The amount, which state BJP president Rahul Sinha said is a ?donation?, will be used during the party?s election campaign.

Those willing to attend Modi?s rally can book seats online – ?a total of 30,000 chairs will be placed for the gathering? – by paying a ?minimum fee? of Rs 100. The website for online registration will go live tomorrow after Sinha inaugurates it at the party?s state headquarters in Muralidhar Lane. The entry fee was decided by the BJP during its state executive meeting on January 3.

?From a minimum of Rs 100, people can donate up to any amount. But it does not mean that those who do not pay for the seats will not be given respect. We are organising meetings at every blocks in the state to attract people for the rally,? Sinha told The Indian Express.

The party leaders say that by introducing online registration, they are targeting the youths, whom they expect to arrive at the rally in large numbers.

The BJP has previously too charged an entry fee for rallies addressed by Narendra Modi but the amount has always ranged from Rs 5 to Rs 10. Apart from Modi, BJP national president Rajnath Singh and secretaries in charge of West Bengal Varun Gandhi and Siddharth Nath Singh will also address the gathering.

The BJP has targeted at least five seats from the state in the next Lok Sabha elections.
