In an attempt to improve effectiveness of government policies through a process of constant assessment, the Planning Commission on Monday announced that it has operationalised an Independent Evaluation Office to be headed by Ajay Chibber as its first director-general.
The new office will conduct independent evaluation of Plan programmes, especially flagship programmes, where a large amount of government money is involved that needs to be spent in way that it meets all the measurable objectives.
?The evaluation office will not only see whether outcome of a scheme measures up to its expectations, but also provide key inputs to improve its design to maximise benefit for the people and make their life better,? Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said.
