The heavy industries ministry?s (MHI) plans to split the post of chairman and managing director (CMD) of NTPC-Bhel Power Projects Private Ltd (NBPPL) into two ? one of chairman and another of managing director ? has met with stiff resistance from the incumbent NBPPL chief CP Singh who has shot off a letter to the Prime Minister?s Office (PMO) requestingt that the proposal be turned down with immediate effect.
The MHI decided to spit the CMD post in NBPPL last year to expedite implementation of the company?s business plans. Ever since its inception in 2007, the company has failed to make much progress as there was confusion on what role the comoany would play in the growing popwer market. Only late last year Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid foundation stone for company?s manufcaturing facility for balance of plant equipment in Andhara Pradesh. ?Splitting of te CMD?s post is expected to divide responsibility and help in faster decision making. Though it was not considered originally, developments in the last few years have strenthened its need,? said a government official asking not to be named.
