Progress Software has India in its sights

At the recently held Progress APJ (Asia Pacific & Japan) Executive Partner Summit 2012 at Macau, China, the company announced its decision to focus on application development and real-time analytics, divesting from 10 of its product lines, including the much-popular Progress Savvion.

Progress Software?s Indian customers include Reliance Capital, ING Vysya, DHL and Reliance Life Insurance.

Jay Bhatt, president & CEO, Progress Software Corporation, summed up the company?s plans: ?Every company goes through change, but not every company goes through a transformation.?

The company sees a major market in the APJ region as far the cloud application platform products are concerned. Announcing its intent to focus on OpenEdge, Data direct connect and Apama, Keith Budge, VP & MD APJ, Progress Software, said: ?Currently, we get 7-8% of our business from this region. The plan requires divestment, but it allows us to invest in areas wherein we want to grow. Progress Software will be successful in the APJ based on how we are doing in the partnering ecosystem.?

The company?s major clients in the APJ region include Capgemini, Huawei, Tata, NCS, Avnet, Qualicom and Unisys.

Asked why Progress Software is reluctant to spread its wings in India, Bhatt rued the lack of supporting environment in the country. He, however, maintained that India is very much a part of the company?s future plans.

When it comes to complex event processing solutions for businesses, one of the solutions from the Progress stable that comes handy is Progress Apama. Apama?s event processing technology allows businesses to monitor events in real-time and seek out patterns and relationships within the events.
