Punjab Power Corp claims supply position ‘comfortable’

He disclosed that daily demand of power has crossed 1300 lakh units and the same has been made available through own generation, Central sector allocations and purchases. Giving details he said that on May 22, the demand of power was 1337 LUs which was met through own thermal generation 476 LUs, own hydro generation 154LUs, from BBMB 117 LUs, new and renewable sources of energy (NRSE) 10 LUs, Central sector allocations 525LUs, banking 24 LUs and purchase of 31LUs.

CMD said that presently no power cuts are imposed on any category of consumers and adequate power is being given to farmers. He added that despite rise in temperature and increase in demand no weekly Off on category-II and Furnace/Rolling Mills have been imposed. Chaudhri thanked engineers for not switching off their mobiles by keeping the spirit of service before self and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to electricity consumers of Punjab.

CMD said that position of coal supply at PSPCL plants is also satisfactory and reserve stock of 5.39 lakh meteric tonne of coal is available at GGSSTP, Ropar, 1.85 lakh MT at GHTP Lehra Mohabat and 0.85 Lakh MT at GNDTP Bathinda. He said that matter for coal supply has been taken up with Coal India Limited and they have further increased the supply of coal rakes.

Chaudhri hoped that in coming days the issue of coal supply with PANEM will also be sorted out and ensured that no shortage of power will be faced by electricity consumers of Punjab and eight hours uninterrupted power supply will be given to farmers for paddy this year.
