The Mumbai High Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing of a case against pharmaceutical firm Wockhardt till September 2. The HC has asked the seven police stations, where the FIRs were filed against the company by Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration, to file affidavits stating their observation during the investigation on Wockhardt?s sale of allegedly banned drug. Maharashtra FDA had filed seven FIRs against the firm on July 29 and 30. It claimed that Wockhardt sold allegedly illegal Spasmo-Proxyvon capsules despite a ban on May 23. However, Wockhardt maintains it started the recall as soon as it received the notification from Maharashtra FDA on June 10.

L&T bags R1,500-cr order from Oman E&P company

Larsen and Toubro has won an order valued around R1,500 crore ($250 million) from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order is for the Yibal third-stage depletion compression (Y3DC) project at the Yibal-Natih gas reservoir in Oman. The project is scheduled to be completed in 39 months.

Datamatics, PreMedia to merge data publishing biz

Software firm Datamatics Global Services (DGSL) said it has entered into an agreement with multimedia content solutions company PreMedia Global (PMG) to merge their data publishing and e-retail business. ?DGSL and PMG group (Lexicon Publishing Services) are pleased to announce the signing of a framework agreement relating to the merger of the digital publishing and e-retail services business of Datamatics and PreMedia Global,? DGSL said in a BSE filing.

NMDC to set up 500-MW power plant at Gonda

Marking its maiden venture into thermal power generation, state-owned iron ore miner NMDC will set up a 500-MW power plant at UP?s Gonda. The company would invest about R3,016 crore on the project and has roped in IL&FS Energy Development (IEDCL) as a partner for the project, giving it a 74% stake, sources said. Both the companies would sign a memorandum of understanding for the project here on Wednesday.

Wockhardt promoters? pledged shares released

The promoters of Wockhardt have said that they have released pledge of shares held in the company. The 6,97,16,132 equity shares held by Khorakiwala Holdings and Investments and 4,42,785 equity shares held by Habil Khorakiwala were released, a company statement said here. With these, there are no promoters shares which are now pledged, the release said.

Fortis completes stake sale in Vietnam hospital

Fortis Healthcare said it has completed the sale of its entire 65% stake in Vietnam-based hospital chain Fortis Hoan My Medical Corporation for $80 million. In June, the healthcare major had entered into a pact to sell its entire stake in the Vietnamese hospital chain to Viva Holdings Vietnam. ?The transaction has been concluded on August 20, 2013,?Fortis Healthcare said in a filing to BSE.

Venus Pharma receives marketing authorisation

Venus Pharma GmbH, a subsidiary of Venus Remedies, has said it has got marketing authorisation (MA) approval from France for meropenem, a generic broad spectrum antibiotic injectable. Besides, it has also signed a non-exclusive marketing rights deal with generic drug maker Mylan to sell meropenem in France. Ashutosh Jain, executive director-cum-chief operating officer, Venus Pharma GmbH, said: ?Driven by our MA grants, we are all set to grab the maximum share in the $270-million meropenem market in the EU in the near future.?

SRF closes manufacturing operations in Dubai

Technical textile maker SRF said it is closing down its manufacturing operations in Dubai due to a sustained downturn in the European market and high fixed costs. The company would relocate plant and machinery from Dubai plant to one of the company’s units in India.
