Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav claimed on Thursday that several BJP leaders have ?contacted? him to prevent Narendra Modi from becoming the prime minister. Addressing an election rally in Etawah, Mulayam claimed that Modi would never become the prime minister ?as several top BJP leaders were not in his favour?. The SP supremo claimed that several BJP leaders have ?contacted? him to say that only he could prevent Modi from becoming the PM. ?I want to assure those BJP leaders that we will prevent Modi from being the PM,? he said. He also said BJP was not going to get majority in the Lok Sabha elections and that there was no ?wave? in favour of the party. Mulayam claimed that after the 2002 Gujarat riots, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee wanted to remove Modi, but party veteran LK Advani stood up for him. Mulayam claimed that Third Front would form the government at the Centre, with SP as its largest component, and said he would stake claim for the prime minister?s post.

AAP approaches Election Commission on oilfield issue

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday approached the Election Commission to prevent the government from taking a decision to give an oilfield to the Essar Group on the pretext that such a move would be a major policy decision and violation of the Model Code of Conduct. ?Despite the Model Code being in force, an oil field that was put out for bidding in 1993, 21 years back, and has not been concluded till date, is sought to be handed over to Essar Group on a platter on the eve of elections,? party leader Prashant Bhushan said in a complaint to the poll body. ?EC should not allow the government to take any such decision since it would be a major policy decision, a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and would amount to a corrupt practice,? he said.
