Steel producer Steel Authority of India (SAIL) would enhance its Bhilai plants capacity to 7.5 million tonnes (mt) per annum from current 5 mt, that would entail an investment of R17,265 crore. This is part of the total outlay of R72,000 crore for modernisation and expansion plan of the company?s hot metal capacity from 14.23 mt to 23.46 mt.

JSW Steel February production up 43%

JSW Steel on Wednesday reported a 43% jump in its crude steel production at 9.63 lakh tonnes (LT) for the month of February. The Sajjan Jindal-headed company had recorded an output of 6.75 LT of crude steel in the same period of 2013. The figures include production from Dolvi unit of JSW Ispat Steel, which has now been merged into JSW.

TCS inks deal with Garuda Indonesia Airlines

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has deployed a maintenance, pepair and overhaul (MRO) application for Garuda Indonesia Airlines. With the TCS SWIFT MRO solution, Garuda replaced over 50 legacy applications, implemented over 300 business processes, and migrated over three million records of data for 140 aircrafts and fitted parts into a unified solution, TCS said.

Alstom T&D bags R161-cr order from Power Grid

Alstom T&D India has bagged a euro-20.1-million contract from state-run Power Grid Corporation for supplying equipment at various centres in North India. ?Alstom T&D India has secured a euro-20.1-million (R161 crore) contract from Power Grid for upgrading transmission substations at 14 sites across five Indian states, and reactors at Bhiwani (Haryana),? the company said in a statement. The expansion will reduce transmission line overloading and improve grid stability in North India, it said.

Cos to spend $500 bn in 2014 to fight data breach

Enterprises worldwide are expected to spend nearly $500 billion this year to deal with problems related to malware and data breaches, a study said on Wednesday. According to the joint study conducted by IDC and the National University of Singapore (NUS), enterprises may have to spend $127 billion on security issues and $364 billion dealing with data breaches. Global consumers, on the other hand, are expected to spend $25 billion and waste 1.2 billion hours this year because of security threats and costly computer fixes stemming from malware on pirated software.

Karbonn eyes R8,000-cr revenue in FY15

Karbonn aims to clock a revenue of R8,000 crore in 2014-15, growing close to 80%, as it expands its smart-phone portfolio. Karbonn, which is the country?s third largest smart-phone maker, expects to close the current fiscal with R4,500 crore in revenues. ?About 80% of our handsets sold are feature phones and the remaining are smart-phones,? Karbonn MD Pardeep Jain told PTI.

India biz sentiment weak in first quarter: Survey

Business sentiment among Asia?s top companies edged up in the first quarter, as solid improvement in the Philippines and South Korea outweighed weakness in China, India and Australia amid persistent concerns over the global economy, a survey showed. The ThomsonReuters/INSEAD Asia Business Sentiment Index snapped two consecutive quarterly declines and rose to 64 in the first quarter of this year from 62 in the Q4 of 2013.

Nasscom aims to explore non-US, non-UK markets

Software services sector body Nasscom is working on strategies to tap non-US?and non-UK markets like China, Japan, South Korea among others, its president R Chandrasekhar said on Wednesday. ?We have made some studies into these markets. The government itself had commissioned a study through Nasscom of the Chinese market,? Chandrasekhar told reporters here on the sidelines of the annual ITsAP SME conference.
