Sunny Leone’s ‘Ragini MMS 2’ box office collections showed that sex, horror and good music sales will always triumph, having bagged Rs 39.38 crore (India business) in the first week after release.
The film, which released in 1500 screens, opened to a tremendous response last Friday, especially in mass-dominated circuits. Ragini MMS 2 had clocked Rs 24.5 crore as box office collections in the opening weekend, including Rs 7.29 crore and 8.78 crore on Saturday and Saturday respectively.
?Horror, sex and good music is a lethal combination, and the presence of Sunny Leone added to the appeal. We expected the film would open well. I think it?s really good, because Ragini MMS 2… had no hero, and it did well despite the on-going T20 world cup,? says trade expert Taran Adarsh.
“#RaginiMMS2 Fri 8.43 cr, Sat 7.29 cr, Sun 8.78 cr, Mon 4.60 cr, Tue 3.81 cr, Wed 3.55 cr, Thu 2.92 cr. Total: Rs 39.38 cr nett. EXCELLENT,” tweeted Adarsh on Saturday.
?I signed Ragini MMS 2, the film stood out because of its horror elements… It came as a challenge for me to step into a new genre,? says Sunny Leone.
The fact that the film?s music, especially the songs – Baby doll and Chaar botal vodka were a hit among the audience has also worked in the film?s favour.
According to trade expert Girish Johar, ?The audiences are finally back into the theatres, despite the exam period, and Ragini … has performed better than the other films.?
Trade expert Vinod Mirani says, ?Ragini… had an eventful opening, and served the purpose of casting Sunny Leone in the lead, who drew the audience into the theatres. But the film isn?t expected to sustain further.?
