Rahul Gandhi was appointed vice-president of the Congress on Saturday. The appointment was endorsed at the Congress' highest decision-making body, its working committee, said party chief spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi, adding that Rahul will lead the party in the 2014 general elections. The CWC met on Saturday evening at the end of a two-day brainstorming session in Jaipur to devise the party's strategy for the next elections,
The move formally places Rahul Gandhi as the party's number two after his mother, Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
He has already been given charge of the party's election campaign strategy. Sonia Gandhi has reportedly given a nod to the appointment and Rahul has accepted responsibility.
