The manner in which the Delhi Police shot dead a young couple in an ‘encounter’ in Rohtak on Monday, accusing them of abducting a businessman, has raised many questions. The FIR registered in the alleged abduction of Najafgarh-based businessman, Ramlal, in Chhawala police station in Southwest Delhi contradicts police’s claims.
The FIR, accessed by Newsline, indicates that Ramlal, Rajkumar and Jyoti were known to each other. All three had consumed liqour on the evening of July 6, the evening when it was alleged that Ramlal was abducted. There was no third person accompanying Rajkumar and Jyoti at that time.
The FIR no. 401, dated July 7, was registered on the basis of statement given by Krishan, an employee working at Ramlal’s slipper factory. In his statement to police, that is reproduced in the FIR, Krishan claimed, “I, Krishan... work as an employee in the factory of Ramlal, resident of Sikarpur, New Delhi. Ramlal runs a factory in Sarika Vihar. On the evening of July 6, a man named Rajkumar and his wife came to meet Ramlal at the factory. All three consumed liqour in the factory and late night, Rajkumar and his wife pulled a pistol at Ramlal and me and abducted both of us in an Ertiga car... They locked us in a house and Rajkumar and his wife threatened Ramlal to give them Rs 20 lakh ransom or else they will eliminate both of us. Ramlal gave me the keys of his safe and asked me to contact his brother and fetch the money. Rajkumar and his wife had kidnapped my employer Ramlal in Rohtak and sent me to fetch the ransom money. Please save my employer Ramlal...”
The fact that a couple, one of them a woman, could abduct two men in a car and drive from Delhi to Rohtak raises many questions.
Also, while shooting at the Ertiga in which Rajkumar and Jyoti were spotted in Rohtak, the Delhi Police claimed that there was a third person in the car who managed to escape. The Delhi Police officers had also claimed that they were shot at by the occupants of the Ertiga and that they had fired in retaliation killing Rajkumar and injuring Jyoti, who later died at a hospital.
However, the Delhi Police did not recover any weapon from the car or the spot that might have been used for firing at them.
