Shivan Bhatiya and Narresh Kukreja give Pune a feel of their luxurious stitch-free swimwear collection.
It is fair to say that at first glance, the collection by Shivan Bhatiya and Narresh Kukreja is a little bewildering. One might keep looking, but there are no seams or stitches anywhere, and yet their line of designer swimwear can be customised for the clients. “The stitches are invisible,” says Kukreja, giving away the suspense. “When you are paying so much for a piece of designer swimwear, why must you have to bear the itch of the stitches on your body? This apart, stitches and interlocking done on the fabric look messy. We have a stitch-free policy that brings luxurious comfort and makes the outfit look classy,” adds Kukreja. The duo has brought their collection to Pune for the first time at Rudraksh Store, Aundh.
After the successful launch of their stitch-free concept in France, they brought their technology to India in 2009 and launched their creations at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort in 2010. They were the first Indian brand to showcase at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012 in Miami, US, and also to participate in the Swimwear Association of Florida’s Swim Show 2012. Among their more recent works was designing vintage swimsuits for Hollywood blockbuster Life of Pi (2012).
Being possibly the only designer swimwear brand in the country is quite a surprise to the duo. “Even though we are a resort country, we still have some inhibitions about swimwear,” says Kukreja.
Realising the importance of taking their services to cities other than Mumbai and Delhi where they have flagship stores, the designers are also headed to Nagpur and Raipur. “We noticed that the concept of a ‘bikini body’ dominates the mindset. The general idea is to change the body to fit into the bikini rather than the other way round — this is what we want to change,” says Kukreja. The duo is also set to launch their website as well as a men’s swimwear line this year.
