The Bidhannagar police commissionerate on Saturday arrested suspended MP Kunal Ghosh in connection with the financial scam case involving the Saradha Group which went bust in April. Ghosh, who was apprehending arrest since Friday, went to lodge a complaint against Arnab Ghosh, deputy commissioner of Bidhannagar police commissionerate. Kunal was not allowed to leave the police station and was arrested after a marathon interrogation.
“We have arrested Kunal Ghosh. We have proof that he has played an important role in conspiracy by Sudipta Sen, CMD, Saradha group. A complaint was lodged charging him under Section 420, 406 and 120B of IPC,” said Arnab Ghosh. The complaint was lodged by the general manager of a private firm, he said.
Meanwhile, Arnab added, “Kunal Ghosh has lodged a complaint. Since my name is involved in the complaint, I would not comment on this. But I can say that law will take its course. The complaint will be investigated. If my involvement is proved then I am ready to face the consequences, but if the complaint is proved false, then action would be taken against Kunal Ghosh.” Earlier, two FIRs were lodged against Kunal Ghosh by employees of the media houses owned by the Saradha Group. The employees alleged that they had not received their salary.
Kunal said he was threatened that if he did not reveal where the Saradha group money went, he would be arrested. Kunal, who had earlier named senior TMC leaders including Mukul Roy and Madan Mitra, for the first time took the name of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Kunal was suspended from the party after he made some allegations against some TMC functionaries while addressing a programme organised by rebel TMC MP Somen Mitra. He was suspended by the disciplinary committee of the party on the ground of anti-party activities. Kunal Ghosh was interrogated 10 times in last couple of months.
