Gandhi Jayanti at St. Xavier’s
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh with the introduction of the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi to the freedom struggle. Also, his teachings were elaborated upon. The Gandhian values were stressed and the need for value-based politics was explained to students.
Apart from this, the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri was also celebrated with echoes of ‘Jai Jawaan, Jai Kisaan’ in the air.
Literary events at St. Xavier’s
The English department of St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh played host by organising Grandiloquence ‘The Orator’. 11 schools from the Tricity participated in the rhetoric where participants had to recite self- composed poetry, excerpts from Shakespeare and express their thoughts in “Just a Minute”.
The ‘self-composed poetry’ was judged by Ms Roopkamal, Ms Rashmi, Ms Atultej Kaur, where Nividita Sharma of St. Xavier’s was adjudged the best.
Mrinalini Singha of Strawberry Fields World School, Chandigarh came second, while Prabhnoor Kaur of Saupin’s School, Panchkula came third.
In ‘Just A Minute’, Susnato Sen Gupta of St. John High School, Chandigarh stood first, while Gureet Bala of St. Xavier’s, Mohali stood second and Ashima Chaudhary of Saupin’s School, Panchkula came third.
In ‘Shakespeare Oration’, judged by Mr Rozaio. Ms Sarita Kanwar, Ms Anita Juneja , Rizak Raj of St. Xavier’s, Chandigarh bagged the top position, while Ashima Sharma of St. Xavier’s, Panchkula and Ryan Rohan Rodrigues of St. John High School, Chandigarh followed him.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Abhishek Sethi of Saupin’s School, Chandigarh.
Laurels for Saupin’s
Students of Saupin’s School, Panchkula made the school proud with their confident performance in the Inter- School Oration Competition. Ashima Chaudhary of Class X won a trophy for the school by grabbing the third position in the Just a Minute event at St. Xavier’s School, Chandigarh, the topic for which was ‘Corruption in Politics’.
In the ‘Poetry Recitation’ even, Japnit of Class X clinched the third runner-up position.
Satluj Public School wins cricket tourney
The second match of the fourth Wing Commander S S Gyani Memorial tournament was played between the teams of Satluj Public School, Panchkula and The Holy Child School, Morni Hills, Panchkula. Holy Child School won the toss and elected to bat. They put up a total of 60 runs in 16 overs against which Satluj Public School scored 61 runs and won the match by 10 wickets. Sahil Vashisht of Satluj Public School was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
