After Prime Minister Narendra Modi?s missive to his ministers against hiring relatives as personal staff, Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju has shot off a letter to all offices and departments under his ministry, seeking specific details regarding relatives employed in organisations connected to the civil aviation sector.

Raju?s first official communication, marked to heads of aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, Air India, Airports Authority of India, Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd, Airports Economic Regulatory Authority and the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Academy, warns that a ?serious view may be taken of the violations of the guidelines by individuals?.

?…HMCA (Minister) has observed that relatives of some of the officials working in the ministry of civil aviation, its subordinates offices and PSUs are taking up employment with organisations connected with the civil aviation sector without obtaining prior approval of the competent authorities, in violation of the existing rules. You are requested to direct all officers/officials in your organisation to follow the guidelines scrupulously,? states a later dated June 9 from the minister?s office.

Government sources say that relatives of a large number of employees attached with the ministry and its subordinate offices work with various private companies dealing in the aviation sector ? the DGCA is said to be among the biggest defaulter.
