SFIO submits interim report on chit fund scams

The SFIO has submitted its interim report to the government on alleged fraudulent money pooling schemes

The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) has submitted its interim report to the government on alleged fraudulent money pooling schemes being run by 54 entities, including Kolkata-based Saradha group, said corporate affairs minister Sachin Pilot.

While the details of the report are not known, sources said the SFIO has managed to establish violation of company laws by 54 entities, including those of the Saradha Group, Rose Valley, Icore E-Services and Sunshine India Land Developers.

The probe, ordered in April by the corporate affairs ministry, came in the wake of alleged defrauding of investors? money worth thousands of crores by Saradha group, among others.

Pilot, however, conceded that there were difficulties in getting data on these companies since they were not very forthcoming in sharing information.

Fourteen Saradha group entities, including Saradha Realty India, Saradha Agro Development, Saradha Exports, Saradha Construction Company and Saradha Garden Resorts and Hotels, are under the scanner. Besides, nine entities from the Sunshine India Land Developers group, 11 from the Icore E-Services group and 19 from Rose Valley group are being investigated by SFIO team.
