'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' box office collections have kept the registers ringing ever since its release and this has not really elicited much surprise from any one at all - Vidya Balan has managed to grab eyeballs again.
That is largely because 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' has charmed multiplex audiences over the weekend and the fact that a big buzz was created pre-release helped add momentum.
'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' collections during the first three days was Rs 21.26 crore (India business), with Rs 5.70 crore coming from the opening day on Friday, followed by Rs 7.55 crore on Saturday and Rs 8.01 crore on Sunday.
With Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar on board, the film also did fabulously well internationally with Rs 11.18 crore in the opening weekend, taking the Shaadi Ke Side Effects's gross box office collections for the first weekend came to approx Rs 32.44 crore.
The film even opened bigger than last year's smash hit Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in the international markets. "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag had opened to a fantastic response internationally (opening weekend of approx $1.4 million), but Shaadi Ke Side/Effects is much ahead of that film in the UK, UAE-GCC and Australia. In USA-Canada, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag had opened at more screens, hence the total was bigger, but Shaadi Ke Side/Effects has much better screen average on lower screens there, said trade expert Taran Adarsh.
"The opening weekend total of Shaadi Ke Side/Effects was approx $1.8 million (Rs 11.18 crores)," Adarsh added.
Ahead of the film's release, Sanjay Dalia, president, Cinemax India Ltd, had predicted, "'Shaadi Ke Side/Effects' will take a good opening, considering the heavy promotions and reactions to the trailer. The advantage is that because of its subject, it should work well in both single-screens and multiplexes.”
