Vaani Kapoor talks about the effort that went in, to become a part of YRF’s Shuddh Desi Romance
My debut film is the recently released Shuddh Desi Romance, which stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra. Set in Jaipur, the plot of the film is novel and something that has not been tackled earlier. It is also very different from any other Yash Raj Film. The character I play is called Tara, a young go-getter, who hails from a middle class family. She is someone who knows what is right for her, is very focussed and deals with everything in life with a simple and straightforward attitude. It’s a romantic film with just the right amount of humour, which will surprise the audience at every step.
I was a model with the Delhi Modelling Management Company. Shanoo Sharma (casting director at YRF) saw my photographs on the agency’s website. She shortlisted my picture along with a few others and called me for an audition. During the audition, I was asked to act out a scene and show my dancing skills. Later, I came down to Mumbai and met her once again. After a series of auditions and look tests with the team, I was finally on board.
I completed my Bachelors in tourism studies from IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), and did a three year internship with Oberoi hotels at the same time. Later, I worked for the modelling agency as a model. Although, I had always thought of pursuing acting as a career, it didn’t look like a practical option. I am extremely laid back, someone who can watch cartoons and eat food all day. My parents had certain inhibitions as well especially about settling down in a new city. Luckily for me, everything fell into place perfectly. Since I am not a trained actor, I had to really work hard to achieve what I have.
The first day on the sets was very relaxed, as Maneesh wanted me to become familiar with the surroundings and feel comfortable. The scene had no dialogues, so I took time out to interact with my co-stars and the crew members in between shots. The second day was interesting, as we shot for the Thappad khaoge scene, which is a crucial part in the film.
The entire shooting process went smoothly, so we didn’t face any problem. But
