Zync Global, a little known Noida-based company has introduced a new slate running on Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Priced at R8,990, the Zync Z-990 is definitely an affordable Android tablet and comes in an ultra-portable design featuring realtime multitasking and symmetrical multiprocessing capabilities.
Getting under the skin, the Zync device is powered by 1.2 GHz processor with 1 GB RAM. It has a 7-inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Its 1.2 GHz processor enables it to play 1080p high definition videos. It has Wi-Fi support and can work with 3G USB dongles as well via its USB 2.0 port. Also, it has a 3.5 mm audio jack, a mini HDMI out and mini USB.
The power and back buttons are provided at the bottom right corner when the tablet is held vertically. The lack of volume keys is a drawback as you may feel irritated while adjusting the volume from the screen and this may cause trouble when playing full screen games. The VGA camera at the front provides decent quality images but make sure there is enough light when you are chatting.
Weighing at 380 gm, this tablet has a 3600 mAh battery and has an internal memory of 4GB. Google Play is also included but you might face problems while installing applications, since there are not many applications compatible with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. We faced problems after installing certain applications. In the AnTuTu performance benchmark, this tablet scored 2,264 and stood third out of the seven tablets, while in the Quadrant benchmark, it scores 1,144 and stood second among seven tablets.
Bottomline: With 1 GB RAM and the latest Android operating system, this tablet is a good choice for tablets under R10,000.
