As much as 55 per cent of all phones sold today are smartphones, according to research firm Gartner, Inc. Even as Samsung consolidated its position as the top smartphone vendor by increasing its lead over Apple, Lenovo came into the third slot with an impressive 84.5 per cent year over year growth in smartphone sales.
Worldwide mobile phone sales totaled 455.6 million units in the third quarter of 2013, an increase of 5.7 percent from the same period last year, a report released on Thursday. Of this, 250.2 million units were smartphones, up 45.8 per cent from the third quarter of 2012.
