Even as Delhi University successfully registered a record number of online applications for its undergraduate courses, government colleges in Gurgaon are struggling with the newly implemented online admission process.
The online admission process at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, was hit by a snag last Sunday. It disrupted admissions for all undergraduate courses and left applicants waiting in anticipation for the admission process to normalise.
?The servers have been running slowly since Monday morning but after 9 am, the servers completely crashed. The situation was the same even on Tuesday,? Asha Yadav, a BSc applicant, who finally submitted her forms from a cyber cafe, said.
Though the admission process was resumed on Tuesday for a while, there was no relief for students as the time to submit the form that day had ended.
Students complained that each time they hit the ?submit? button, the page crashed and the submission was declined. Many students also did not receive a confirmation text message, containing their form number and password.
However, after repeated complaints by college authorities to officials in the Education department, the server started functioning properly on Wednesday morning.
?This is the first time such a thing has been implemented. We had appraised authorities about the glitch that created a lot of anxiety amongst the applicants. However, the server was fine on Wednesday and many students submitted forms online,? RK Yadav, Principal, Dronacharya Government College, said. As a result of the technical snags, Dronacharya College received only 1,760 online forms in
four days.
Sushma Chaudhary, Principal, Government P G College, Sector 10, Gurgaon, blamed the technical problem on ?heavy traffic? that the college website received because of the online admission process. ?The server was slow as many students were applying at the same time. This has now been fixed,? she said. The college registered only 950 forms till Wednesday evening as compared to around 8,000 applicantions last year.
?We are expecting around 22,000 applications this time. Because of the technical proble, we have already wasted three days. We hope to see more applicants now,? an official of Dronacharya Government College said.
