Low cost carrier SpiceJet on Tuesday announced yet another discount scheme on select routes to South Indian cities, days before new entrants Air Asia India is set to launch its first flight in the country.
The Kalanithi Maran-controlled airline, which has rolled out over 10 discounts since January, launched its ‘Monsoon Sale’ that offers fares as low as Rs 1,999, inclusive of taxes, on direct, via and onward flights from eight cities of Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mysore and Vishakhapatnam.
The three-day offer, for which bookings started on Tuesday, is valid for travel between July 6 and March 28 next year, the airline said in a release.
?Lean seasons like this are the best time to travel for guests without stretching their wallet,? said Kaneswaran Avili, Chief Commercial Officer, SpiceJet.
Interestingly, the carrier has launched its latest promotional activity at a time when the newest player in the Indian aviation sector, AirAsia India will launch operations on June 12 at fares as low as Rs 990 for routes such as Bangalore-Goa-Bangalore and Bangalore-Chennai-Bangalore.
AirAsia India had on May 30 announced the availability of 15,000 tickets with a base fare of Rs 5 (excluding airport taxes and other fees) on these routes. Tickets under this offer were sold out by June 1, a spokesperson of Air Asia India had earlier told FE.
?This is a perfectly timed move by SpiceJet to lure bookings from its newest competition by introducing highly attractive fares for a limited period on the same sectors that the new airline is supposed to start operating in less than two days,? said Neelu Singh, COO, Ezeego1.com.
?Other carriers are bound to follow suit by offering special fares for these sectors, wherein the booking period is before June 12,? Singh added.
