Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga won the toss and decided to bat first against the West Indies in the World Twenty20 semifinal on Thursday.
Sri Lanka made one change from the side that beat New Zealand by 59 runs in its last game, bringing in legspinner Seekkuge Prasanna for Thisara Perera.
The West Indies, which defeated Pakistan by 84 runs to qualify for the semifinals, went in unchanged.
The West Indies defeated Sri Lanka in the 2012 final to win its first World Twenty20 title.
