The race to get into Delhi University gathered momentum on Friday, with the university clocking a record sale of forms. This year too, the university?s two premier minority institutions ? St Stephen?s College and Jesus and Mary College (JMC) ? remained the top choice, with more than 14,000 students having registered for the two colleges online in the last five days alone.

The admission formalities for both colleges have to be completed entirely online. While, more than 8,000 students have already registered for St Stephen?s College, approximately 6,000 have filled up forms for JMC.

?Around 8,000 students have already registered through the St Stephen?s website. Around 5,500 have also paid the fee,? Karen Gabriel, associate professor, Department of English, told Newsline.

At Stephen?s, the preferred choice of subject seemed to be English and Economics. Meanwhile, at JMC, most students applied for English and Psychology.

?In the first four days, around 6,000 students registered on the college website. An increasing number of students have shown an interest in studying English and Psychology,? JMC principal Dr Marina John said.

Other colleges which haven?t made provisions for online registration, set up admission counselling centres inside their premises to assist students in submitting forms. The counselling centres set up at Stephen?s were inaccessible as students were not allowed to enter the college.

?I had a few queries regarding the admission. Since I was in North Campus, I thought I would clarify my doubts and visit the college. But the college security didn?t let me enter, saying that I would find answers to all my questions online,? Pooja Thakur, a humanities aspirant, who visited the college on the third day of admissions, said.
