District and Sessions Judge S K Aggarwal on Wednesday recorded the statements of the two accused in the murder case of Inspector Sucha Singh. The statements of Basant and his paramour Sarita were recorded under Section 313 of Criminal Procedure code (Crpc).
Both the accused have been charged with murder, attempt to murder and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
They have been charged under Section 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), Section 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) read with Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
Both of them have denied committing any such crime while giving their statements. Basant said the Chandigarh Police has falsely implicated him in the the case as he was earlier a constable in the same police force.
Sarita also denied all allegations and said that Inspector Sucha Singh never took their names in his dying declaration.
The defence counsel has been given the chance to produce evidence in the court, which will be recorded on November 15.
