Tariff order on Tata, Adani plants challenged

Energy Watchdog, an NGO, has challenged the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission?s recent orders of compensatory tariff for Tata Power

Energy Watchdog, an NGO, has challenged the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission?s recent orders of compensatory tariff for Tata Power and Adani Power?s generating stations in Mundra at the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.

Under long-term contracts, Tata Power?s 4,000-mw ultra-mega power project supplies electricity to five states ? Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat ?while 2,420 mw power from Adani Power?s nearby plant is consumed by only two states, Gujarat and Haryana.

In two separate appeals filed with the Aptel, the NGO said that the CERC has allowed undue favours to Tata Power and Adani Power( allegedly amounting to R44,000 crore and R31,808 crore over a 25-year period) by granting them extra tariff for electricity, payable from a retrospective date.
