In March last year, French-European restaurant Le Cirque popped up for a night in Mumbai at The Leela. With some of their signature dishes such as scallops thermidor and slow-cooked lamb saddle on the menu, the evening, hosted by The Leela’s Italian restaurant Stella, was a huge success.
Looking back today, it was perhaps an attempt on part of the Andheri East hotel to test waters before bringing down the reputed New York eatery to town. The restaurant, which arrived in Delhi in 2011, is now set to open in Mumbai. This Saturday, a 65-seater Le Cirque will replace Stella with chef Matteo Boglione at the helm.
The New York eatery, which opened in 1974, is on an expansion spree in Asia, and Mumbai was a destination they had been considering. The restaurant, which will be open only for dinner, is a much smaller property than its Delhi counterpart. Nevertheless, the team at The Leela promises a customised bar and a well-stocked wine-cellar with over 250 Italian and French wines as well as the option of a private dining room. Signature dishes such as the Lobster Salad, Spaghetti Primavera and ingredients such as black truffles and foie gras will be the highlights of the menu.
