To equip technical graduates with the managerial skills necessary to rise through the corporate hierarchy, the LM Thapar School of Management, the business school of Thapar University, Patiala housed in a 250-acre campus has come up with a new state-of-the-art campus at Dera Bassi near here.

Based on the fundamentals of ethical decision making, inclusive human resources management, sustainable strategy development and entrepreneurial growth, this management school seeks to develop a new Indian business model by combining multiple economic and social models with technology as a backbone to create strategies for success, a novel concept that sets it apart from other business schools.

Elaborating on his vision for the business school, LMTSM Director Dr Padmakumar Nair said, ?We are in the business of selling dreams and buying challenges. We power the passion for excellence and imagine the unimaginable. We train students in not only occupying jobs but also creating them by cultivating a spirit of social and commercial entrepreneurship among them. The only business school in India with special focus on social entrepreneurship, we are in the process of setting up a venture lab with incubation facility for potential entrepreneurs. With precisely this in mind, we have ?New India starts here? as our motto.?

Spread over 26 acres, the hi-tech campus has Wi-Fi-enabled smart classrooms with digital podiums and IP cameras for web streaming and surveillance. Fully equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity through a centrally managed access point, the new campus offers the flipped classroom concept to enable students to access their assignments, library or study material at their own comfort, using the Learning Management System. Students can catch up with the lectures delivered in class on the local network.

Announcing that LMTSM would be among the Top 20 business schools in India by 2020 with respect to student satisfaction, corporate relevance, research output and community engagement, Dr Nair said, ?We take CAT/MAT/CMAT scores of applicants into account for admissions, which makes us a non-IIM member of the CAT family. This year, we will become the first institute in India to offer a rigorous BE in Software Engineering and Management in collaboration with the faculty of engineering of Thapar University.?

Stressing on a multidisciplinary approach to management education, the LMTSM Director said, ?In the present-day scenario, management education cannot be viewed in isolation. For this reason, we impart lessons to our students in history, culture and literature to help them develop an understanding which goes beyond the conventional management education based on Western textbooks.?

The LMTSM has signed several MoUs with international universities of repute, like University of Texas at Dallas, USA; University of Twente, Netherlands; Free University, Amsterdam, Netherlands and University of Waterloo, Canada. Students from these universities have already visited LMTSM to participate in academic and research activities under exchange programmes.

Dr. Nair said that the School would strive to improve life of people in the vicinity as its CSR initiative.
