Little Millennium is a chain of pre-schools designed to cater to the needs of students from two to five years. Launched in 2006, it is the first structured and process-driven IP in the fragmented space for early childhood education. Recently, the company introduced the Little Millennium App project that aims to help students develop a positive attitude towards learning. Bindu Rana, head of R&D, Educomp Solutions?which runs the Little Millennium schools?tells FE?s Vikram Chaudhary how this innovative technology platform can help both parents and students. Excerpts:
You have a long list of curriculum-based technology applications. What role does the Little Millennium App play?
Educomp is known for its range of products and programmes that enhance the teaching-learning process in the K12 space. Now, the R&D wing of Educomp has developed an exhaustive set of apps for pre-school students under the Little Millennium App project, which helps in the overall development of a child. Each app is designed to address the educational as well as the developmental needs of learners at the pre-primary level. Learning through these apps provides a fun-filled and deeply-engaging experience. These apps are also useful for parents as they deal with issues that they face while raising the kids. These apps are different from other curriculum-based technology applications as they cover various aspects of a child?s interest.
What was the guiding principle behind this project?
Our vision was to use the medium of fun-filled activities for teaching. With easy access that children have to smartphones and tabs, we wanted to develop apps to keep them engaged without deviating from the learning objective.
What are the benefits that come attached with such an app?
These apps enhance the learning experience of kids in a safe environment and help parents expand their child?s learning and development capabilities in an interactive way. Use of these apps also increases the competence level in a child as they get to understand a wide range of topics.
Can parents, even if they are technology-challenged, find these solutions convenient?
The Little Millennium apps consist of various set of instructions that are user-friendly. For example, the parenting tips apps elaborate on the issues faced by parents and the ways to handle these issues; and the English speaking modules provide a brief outline of how parents should converse in English with their children. Then, readily-available parental controls and computer safety tools also help the parents monitor the child?s activity online.
