There may have been a lot of debate over which prestigious venue would host Sachin Tendulkarís last international match, but it may well be a small-town ground that could see the 40-year old play his last Ranji Trophy game in.
Word around the Mumbai cricket circles is that Tendulkar, who is set to retire after playing two Tests against West Indies, may turn up for Mumbaiís Ranji trophy opener at Lahli, Haryana. The game is set for October 27, and it is learnt that Tendulkar might use the game to warm up for the West Indies Test series.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) joint-secretary Nitin Dalal said that the MCA was yet to speak to Tendulkar on his availability for the game but was hopeful that youngsters might get a chance to play against Tendulkar one last time in domestic cricket.
ďI will be speaking to him before the selection committee meets. There is a chance that there is an India camp before the Test matches but we donít know about it yet. If he decides to play the Ranji game, then it will certainly be a big boost for Mumbai and also the youngsters who will have a last chance to learn a few things from him,Ē Dalal told The Sunday Express.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) senior selection committee is expected to meet on October 16. The tours and fixtures committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to meet on October 14 to choose the venues for the two Test matches against West Indies. It is likely that India will play the matches from November 6-10 and November 14-18, the latter of which in Mumbai, which will be the farewell Test for Tendulkar.
Last season too Tendulkar had turned up for Mumbai before playing the Test series against England at home. ďThere is chance of him playing because he will be eager to go on high. He has always looked at Ranji games as the best preparation for a Test series and knowing Tendulkar, he will turn up for domestic game. He has expressed his desire to play few games before Test matches,Ē said a senior player.
