After much procrastination, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has finally proposed the toll tax rates for the Yamuna Expressway that connects Greater Noida and Agra.
The proposal sent by YEIDA to the Uttar Pradesh industry department wants toll tax on light vehicles like cars and jeeps to be at R 2.10 per kilometre, for medium heavy vehicles like minibuses at R3.25 and for buses and trucks at R6.60. For heavy vehicles, it seeks R10.10 per kilometre and R12.95 for big heavy vehicles. This tax would be collected by the concessionaire of the expressway, Jaypee Infratech, for 36 years.
According to a government source, the state will get the proposal vetted by the law and finance departments before the chief minister?s office gives the final approval.
There are three toll tax plazas on this route at present. While the first toll plaza is at Jewar, the second in at Mathura, while the third one is near Agra. Reacting to the charge that the toll tax fixed by the YEIDA is steep , the official said that since this is a greenfield project and offers unobstructed traffic flow the cost has been higher.
