The Lucknow Police is not sure whether Subrata Roy should be taken to Delhi by road or by air. Scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court on March 4, Subrata Roy is currently at the state forest guest house. “There is confusion on whether he is a criminal or not because he has not been booked under any section of the IPC. He has only been found to be guilty of contempt,” said an official, adding the police were wary of criticism by the court if he were to be flown to Delhi.
“We are weighing the pros and cons and trying to gather experts’ views. Baba Ramdev, Abu Salem and Asaram Bapu were flown to Delhi, but we still want to be sure. We do not want to be accused of giving any special treatment,” he added.
“Taking Subrata Roy to Delhi by road in a Scorpio is also being contemplated,” said another source, adding the Lucknow district magistrate has declared the Kykrail state guest house a temporary prison, as was done when high-profile leaders like LK Advani and MM Joshi were held there. Legal experts said Subrata Roy was getting preferential treatment.
